Inferno’s Bistro was one of my earliest reviews — a birthday lunch for my mom in 2019.
I went back recently. The menu has changed since then and so have the prices.
Not surprising.
This time, I went with a group of friends who had either never been or haven’t visited for a long time.
I always make a reservation. The place was almost full on a Tuesday night.
They were really happy that I suggested it, as it was an enjoyable experience for them.
The Menu
They have a specials menu that’s on the first page of the standard menu.
I really like that, because in the past, the staff listed them verbally.
By the time they got to the 3rd item, I’d already forgotten the first two. All I could see was their mouths moving — nothing was registering 😅
You can find their standard menu and a separate gluten free menu (download PDF) on their website.
The Food
Appetizers
I’ve had the calamari before. It’s an excellent choice — lightly battered and crispy, and the squid is tender.

I wanted to try something new, so this time we went with the Lobster Potstickers, with sweet chilli cream and Saigon sauce.
This is an amazing dish.
The first bite — different tastes hit you, layer by layer. You can taste the lobster, and it’s tender.
That sauce!
We ended up soaking up every bit of it with the complimentary bread. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of us licked the plate 😂.

Both dishes are on the specials menu.
The Mains
We ordered:
Poulet à la Façon du Chef (CAD$31)
A sweet-and-savoury combination — apple and creamy havarti stuffed inside the chicken, with a tart cranberry brown butter sauce over top to balance the richness.
This dish has been on the menu for years. It’s a staple.

Saumon Champagne (CAD$31)
A rich but delicate dish — pan-seared salmon in champagne cream, sorrel adding a lemony note, and tempura leeks on top for crunch.

Char Artique (CAD$35)
Lobster and gruyère worked into a potato mousseline stuffed inside the char, with lemon verbena sauce adding a bright, citrusy note to lighten it.

Shrimp Po Boy (CAD$19)
Fried shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, sliced pickles and remoulade.
I’ve always wanted to try it. But time after time, I always ordered something else.
Not this time.
It’s actually in the Sandwich section. All sandwiches are served with a choice of soupe, frites or la petite salade. I chose frites and it was a huge amount 😂
There are a few large shrimp in the sandwich. Not greasy, beautifully cooked.
All the textures and flavours work well.
But it is messy.
There were plenty of compliments to go around during the meal.

Other Entrees
Risotto aux Crevettes (CAD$29)
The jumbo prawns are plump and succulent, and the sauce is fantastic.

Jarret d’Agneau (CAD$37)
Braised lamb shank served in a maple balsamic reduction.
I don’t eat lamb, so I can’t tell you about this one myself.
Our waitress said it’s her favourite, and I’ve heard others recommend it too — worth noting if you do eat lamb.
Desserts
Inferno’s is known for their desserts, and they make them in-house.
You come in through the patio side, and on the left when you walk in, you can see the desserts displayed — tortes, cheesecakes and tarts.

Crème Brûlée (CAD$13)
Ask your server for today’s selection.
Rich, sweet and smooth custard, contrasted with the hard, bittersweet crunch of caramelized sugar on top.
You can’t go wrong with this choice.

Chocolate Cappuccino Cream Cheesecake (CAD$13)
Moist chocolate cheesecake crowned with cappuccino flavoured whipped cream.
I don’t usually like cheesecake, because I find it too rich and dense. But this one surprised me.
It was not overly sweet, and much lighter. I would order it again.

Lemon Hazelnut Slice (CAD$13)
Hazelnut shortbread crust filled with lemon curd, topped with crushed hazelnut whipped cream.
They used to have a Lemon Hazelnut Torte — this looks pretty much the same.
The crushed hazelnut whipped cream completes the whole dessert. It’s thick and a bit dense, but not too sweet, and it ties in nicely with the tangy lemon curd.

Final Thoughts
Inferno’s Bistro has always been a good choice for lunch and dinner.
The food is consistent, and the desserts never disappoint.

My Original Post from 2019
Below is my old post from 2019, when I went for lunch. It was a birthday lunch for my mom.
To celebrate mom’s birthday, a group of us went to Inferno’s Bistro on Des Meurons for lunch a couple of weeks ago.
I hadn’t been there for a while so I was excited. I’ve tried their crab cakes and several different flavours of Moules Et Frites in the past and found them satisfying and delicious.
We were quickly seated when we arrived since mom made a reservation. The restaurant was already packed, but not that noisy. I always liked the ambience at Inferno’s, especially in the summer when the patio is open.
Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Each time I visit, I am impressed that the waiting staff at the restaurant remembers and recites all the specials. Because I can’t remember a damn thing when they start on the fourth special. It may be helpful to provide a separate typed sheet of the specials of the day.
Two of us including me ordered Saumon Panini ($14) – Grilled salmon on focaccia with artichokes, greens and shitake mushrooms. (no longer on the menu)

All sandwiches are served with choice of soup, fries or a small salad. I chose a Caesar salad (with no croutons) which costs extra
When the waiter put the plate in front of me, my first impression was how small the portion was. I am mindful that I have a healthy appetite. But I can finish this in three bites.
The sandwich was flavourful, however, the salmon was overcooked.
Everyone else enjoyed their dishes.

Medallions of veal sautéed in a rich mushroom & white wine cream sauce

Served with caramelized onions on a garlic baguette
Dessert time came. I am a fan of creme brulee so I felt compelled to order the Cappuccino Creme Brulee. The hardened caramelized sugar on the top had the perfect texture. The creamy custard at the bottom had a rich Cappuccino flavour. I could have had another one.

Cappuccino infused custard topped with caramelized sugar
I also tried the Lemon Hazel Torte (someone else ordered it). It was dense and very sweet. If you have a sweet tooth and love lemon flavoured desserts, this could be a wonderful choice.
