Le Burger Week 2024

Le Burger Week in Winnipeg ran from September 1st to 8th this year, featuring 108 burger entries. With so many options, it was tough to pick which ones to try in just one week!

I managed to taste 5 burgers over 2 nights with friends, and we had an absolute blast! 😊 Can’t wait for Le Burger Week 2025!

Aburi Sushi

📍 311 Pembina Hwy, WINNIPEG, R3L 2E3 Manitoba, Canada

Burger Entry 🍔: Creamy Salmon Sushi Burger (CDN$21.95)
📝 Deep fried rice, creamy salmon massago mix, tamago, lime zest, unagi sauce

Our visit to Aburi Sushi had some ups and downs. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes before someone greeted us and mentioned we’d have only an hour to dine due to how busy they were. We told him we were there to try their sushi burger and wouldn’t need the full hour, but we continued standing by the door, unsure of what to do next.

The restaurant is small, with only four tables – two occupied, and two uncleared. It was apparent that they were short-staffed and overwhelmed, but we understood. After a while, a friendly staff member seated us and brought out the sushi burger. However, we had to ask for utensils, and the napkin box was empty.

The burger itself was unique and enjoyable, featuring deep-fried rice, creamy salmon masago mix, tamago, lime zest, and unagi sauce. The rice was chewy, and the salmon had a nice flavour.

Meal Set Bistro

📍 612 Academy Rd, Winnipeg, R3N 0E6 MB, Canada

Burger Entry 🍔: Million Dollar Baby (CDN$35)

This masterpiece features:
🌟Sweet activated charcoal bun
🌟Spiced truffle caviar aioli
🌟6oz sirloin and wagyu blend
🌟Double Swiss
🌟Candied bacon
🌟Deep-fried soft shell crab
🌟Crisp lettuce
🌟Hot house tomato
🌟Fresh red onion
🌟Edible 24K gold dust
🌟Topped with A5 wagyu aburi, a sunny-side up quail egg, and black tobiko caviar

This burger has my vote! It’s absolutely delicious, and the portion is generous. Add truffle fries for the perfect meal!

The service was attentive, and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

Saucers Cafe

📍 570 Academy Rd, Winnipeg, R3N 0E3 MB, Canada

Burger Entry 🍔: The Bday Burger (CDN$12)
📝A pink “Oh Doughnuts” doughnut, stuffed with cheesecake and graham cracker topped with Manitoba strawberry sauce, whipped cream mixed with “Chaeban” mascarpone cheese and a healthy dose of sprinkles.

It’s Saucer Café’s 25th birthday this year, and they’re celebrating in style – with a cake that looks like a burger!

This was my first time trying a dessert burger at Le Burger Week, and I was a bit worried it would be too sweet. To my surprise, it wasn’t! The whipped cream and cheese blended perfectly, balancing the chewy doughnut. It was a party in my mouth! A cup of coffee or tea pairs perfectly with this yummy dessert burger.

Dockside Restaurant and Bar

📍 90 Kenabeek St, Winnipeg, R4A 1A3 MB, Canada

Burger Entry 🍔: Fried Lobster Po Boy Cheeseburger (CDN$27)
📝4 oz Brisket Beef Patty and Ripple Chip Breaded Fried Lobster Tail with Candied Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, House-made Remoulade on a Brioche Bun.

Le Burger Week offers the perfect chance to discover new restaurants. If it weren’t for this event, I wouldn’t have known about Dockside Restaurant, located in West St. Paul at the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club – another spot I hadn’t heard of! Though it’s a bit of a drive, it’s definitely worth the trip.

The restaurant has a large deck overlooking the Red River, providing a scenic setting to enjoy a great meal while taking in the beauty of the river and the boats.

The burger was packed with flavour, and as my friend said, “they didn’t chintz on the lobster”. The menu also has a wide variety of options, and we couldn’t resist trying their lumpia. The crispy, light skin and delicious filling made it a winner. We’re so glad we made the visit!

Milksmith Inc.

📍 651 Corydon Ave, Winnipeg, R3M 0W4 MB, Canada

Burger Entry 🍔: The Sweet Supreme (CDN$16.99)
📝All the flavours of a banana split reimagined into the dessert burger of your dreams! Banana ice cream patty dipped in chocolate-peanut shell, served on a sesame donut bun with sweet “lettuce”, strawberry “ketchup”, pineapple fries, whip cream “mayo” and a kiwi “pickle”.

Milksmith is known for its artisanal rolled ice cream in Winnipeg. I’m thrilled that they participated in Le Burger Week this year.

Their dessert burger was dense but not overly sweet. They kindly cut it in half for my friend and me, and I ate my portion just like a regular burger. It held up well and didn’t melt too quickly, making it the perfect way to wrap up Le Burger Week!
