My friends and I were really glad to finally try BabyBaby — one of the most talked-about new spots in Winnipeg right now. The restaurant only opened in March 2025, but it’s already made the Air Canada Best New Restaurants 2025 finalist list in September.
From Basil’s to BabyBaby
If the address feels familiar, it’s because this is where the old Basil’s Restaurant used to be. The original space has now been split into two restaurants — BabyBaby and Shirley’s, both opened this March and both landed on the Air Canada list. That’s a serious glow-up for the building and Osborne Village. 👏
The Vibe
The ambience at BabyBaby is cool and effortlessly hip. You’ll find a mix of cozy booths, smaller tables, couches, and even a long shared table by the bar — perfect for people-watching or striking up a random conversation with a cocktail in hand. Speaking of which, I heard the cocktails are top-notch and definitely worth going back for.
They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait a bit — but honestly, the buzz and energy make it feel like part of the experience.
The Food
The menu is designed for sharing — small, medium, and large plates. We ordered four dishes, and at first, I thought it might not be enough. Boy, was I wrong.
The funny thing is, it wasn’t just us — many of the nearby diners were also checking out what other tables were ordering; everything looked so good table envy was real.
Beef Tartare
Beef with pine nut salsa and caramelized honey butter. Creamy, fresh, and beautifully layered. The pear adds just the right touch of sweetness and crunch, while the house-made kettle chips are so addictive it’s impossible to stop at one.

Lobster Roll
Served on a soft toasted milk bun and layered with fresh lobster, kohlrabi, and Madras butter. The combination is rich, luscious, and perfectly textured — every bite hits that warm, buttery note that keeps you wanting more. No wonder it’s our absolute favourite.

Mussels
Steamed mussels swimming in a coconut curry bisque — velvety, aromatic, with a gentle kick. The kind of dish that makes you seriously consider licking the bowl clean.

Chicken Dinner
A trio of BBQ, crispy, and skewered chicken, served with peanut sambal, green chili mayo, and salad wraps. It’s a fun, hands-on dish with bold flavours and a massive portion size. We couldn’t finish it even though we really wanted to.

Final Thoughts
BabyBaby brings a fresh, exciting energy to Winnipeg’s dining scene — stylish, creative, and full of flavour. Whether you’re going for dinner, cocktails, or just curious about why everyone’s talking about it, this is one spot that absolutely deserves a spot on your must-try list.
I look forward to going back to try other dishes.
