Tre Visi Café proves why it’s still a Winnipeg Italian classic

I’ve been wanting to revisit Tre Visi Café for a while now. It’s one of those places that’s been around long enough to feel familiar, yet somehow I never get tired of it. Recently, a friend mentioned she had never been there — which immediately gave me the perfect excuse to go back.

I made a reservation for 6 p.m. When we walked in, the restaurant was calm and quiet, with that warm, inviting buzz of soft chatter and clinking glasses. By the time we left, it was completely packed — clearly, I’m not the only one who still loves this place.

We began with the Gamberetti Genovese, a dish of prawns, sundried tomato, and pesto cream. Our waitress — super friendly and just the right amount of persuasive — said the sauce was that good and we’d better get some bread to soak it up.. Naturally, we obliged and ordered focaccia — warm, soft, and just the right amount of chewy. And yes, she was right — that sauce deserved every last crumb of bread. A solid start.

For our mains, we went all-in on seafood:

Linguine Adriatica — scallops, prawns, mussels, and garlic tomato sauce.

CDN$26

Capellini Dorati — scallops, prawns, roasted red pepper, and saffron cream.

CDN$26

The pasta was fresh, the sauces were balanced, and everything just worked. My friend took one bite, looked up with wide eyes, and said, “Heavens have come down.” 😂

Now, we already knew dessert was happening — no debate there. Zuccotto caught our eye on the specials menu: a chocolate ganache dome cake filled with chocolate hazelnut mousse, topped with raspberry coulis, fresh raspberries, and hazelnut-almond cookie crumble.

It was one of those desserts that make you pause mid-bite and just appreciate life for a second. Not overly sweet, rich but not heavy, and every flavour played perfectly together. Easily the highlight of the night.

CDN$15

Tre Visi Café might not be the trendiest new spot in town, but honestly, it doesn’t need to be. The food is consistent, the service is warm, and the atmosphere still hits that comforting “Italian dinner with friends” vibe.

Fun fact: Tre Visi originally started in the Exchange District before opening this café location in 2012 — and after all these years, it’s still going strong.

If you’re craving handmade pasta, a cozy dining room, and a dessert that’ll make you say “heavens have come down,” you know where to go.
