If it wasn’t for Polyvore, I probably would not have known that New York Fashion Week was from Feb. 8 to Feb. 16 this year.
This week, Polyvore is running three contests to make it extra special for the Polyvore community:
- Win it: NYFW Trend Spotting: Hot Pink
- Win it: NYFW Trending Spotting: Plaid
- Win it: NYFW: Street Style
Three winners of each contest will received $100 Visa gift card.
Between just returning from a vacation and the Chinese New Year, I have not had the chance to create many sets. Here are some of my creations:
1. Hot Pink
I’ve grown to like pink over the last few months and I like to combine various shades of pink in my sets.
This is the casual look. It’s not very difficult to style a casual outfit. However, it did take me a while to find the right pieces. I wanted to make sure that they would give the entire set a right balance of pink.
This is the dressed-up look. When I saw this fabulous Gucci top, I thought I’d style it with a floral dress. Winter has been long and cold. This reminds of spring. Since it’s still winter, what could be more stylish than to pair the look with a faux fur coat. To finish the look, I chose a D&G bag and these amazing Balenciaga knife pumps.
2. Plaid
Plaid is somewhat challenging. I’ve seen some sets with too much plaid or different patterns and colours of plaid that really do not go well together.
When I hear the word plaid, I usually think of red and black plaid pants. Don’t know why. For this contest, I wanted to do something different.
Instead of starting with a pair of plaid pants, I drew inspiration from this Betsey Johsnon Alley Cat wool plaid coat with faux fur sleeves. I wanted more plaid for the rest of the outfit but not too much. The Suno plaid scarf tie blouse was the perfect choice. I initially wanted a pair of brown or beige pants but when I saw these blue Maggie Marilyn flared pants, I was sold.
This plaid set was inspired by the NYFW street style photos on the web. I knew I wanted to include a puffer coat and long plaid skirt. But not a monochrome set. To style the rest of the look, I found the Joseph Ribbed wool sweater which looks so soft and chic. For shoes, I was drooling over these Chloe Kole boots when I saw them.
3. Street Style
Street style is one of my favourite styles. However, one of the contest guidelines is to grab a street style shot from Polyvore’s collection and create a set. Sometimes, it’s not easy to find the pieces worn in the photos. Due to limited time, I managed to create one.
I love this look and thankfully, it didn’t take me three hours to find items similar shown in the photo.
