Kevin’s Bistro Corydon Review: A New Winnipeg Gem with Great Gluten-Free Options

Kevin’s Bistro may be one of the newer additions to Corydon Avenue, having opened in March 2026, but it already feels like it belongs here. Located in the same building as Stella’s Cafe, it’s surrounded by some well-known local favourites, including Falafel Place directly across the street and Sabai Thai located on the adjacent corner. It’s now a busy stretch of Corydon with great dining options.

Fortunately, Kevin’s Bistro appears more than capable of holding its own.

This visit wasn’t actually my first experience with the Kevin’s Bistro brand. Years ago, I visited their downtown location when the menu was heavily centred around their signature mac & cheese dishes. While those comfort-food classics helped establish their reputation, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much the menu has evolved over the years. Today, Kevin’s Bistro offers a much wider range of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and pastas, making it appealing to a broader audience.

One of the main reasons I chose Kevin’s Bistro for this visit was because I was dining with my mom, who follows a gluten-free diet. Finding restaurants that offer more than just one or two token gluten-free options can sometimes be challenging, so seeing a menu with a substantial number of clearly marked choices was immediately encouraging. My mom was especially impressed by the variety available and appreciated having multiple dishes to choose from instead of feeling limited.

We started with two appetizers: the Sprouts and the Spinach Con Queso.

The Sprouts were cooked beautifully, achieving that balance between tenderness and texture while delivering plenty of flavour. Brussels sprouts have become a staple appetizer on many restaurant menus, but they’re not always memorable. These stood out as a dish we’d happily order again.

The Spinach Con Queso was a pleasant surprise. If I had been dining on my own, it’s probably not something I would have considered ordering. Credit goes entirely to my mom for that choice. The rich, creamy dip was comforting without feeling overly heavy, and the spinach added enough freshness to keep every bite interesting. It quickly became one of those dishes where everyone keeps reaching back for “just one more scoop.”

For her main course, my mom selected the Steak Chimichurri. The presentation immediately caught our attention when it arrived at the table. The steak was cooked well, tender, and easy to enjoy, while the chimichurri added a bright, herbaceous contrast that complemented the meat without overwhelming it. As someone who often pays close attention to texture, my mom was particularly pleased with how the steak turned out.

I decided on the Baja Chicken Sandwich, paired with a Caesar salad instead of fries. The sandwich itself was satisfying and packed with flavour, but surprisingly, the side salad became one of my favourite parts of the entire meal.

Too often, Caesar salads are weighed down by excessive dressing, leaving little room for freshness. This version avoided that pitfall completely. The lettuce remained crisp, the dressing was balanced, and the overall result felt light and refreshing. I found myself devouring it much faster than expected. The salad was so good that I probably would have more if my mom hadn’t kept ‘stealing’ bites from my plate throughout the meal. 😂

One thing that stood out during our visit was the consistency. Every dish that arrived at the table was well executed, generously portioned, and enjoyable from start to finish. There wasn’t a weak link among the appetizers, mains, or sides.

The highest praise of the evening came from my mom. After we had finished eating and reflected on everything we had ordered, she summed up the experience perfectly:

“There’s nothing on this table that I wouldn’t order again.”

That’s about as strong an endorsement as a restaurant can receive.

For a first visit, Kevin’s Bistro exceeded expectations. Between the extensive gluten-free options, diverse menu, generous portions, and well-prepared dishes, it’s easy to see why it has quickly become a welcome addition to the Corydon dining scene. Based on this experience, it certainly won’t be our last visit.
