Winnipeg has a vibrant Thai food scene. Not only is the food delicious, but many dishes are naturally gluten-free – unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants, which is a massive plus.
I’ve compiled a list of some of my personal favourites. They aren’t listed in any particular order. Let’s dive in!
1. Siam Authentic Thai Cuisine
This is the Thai restaurant I visit most often and the only Thai restaurant to have been awarded “Thai Select Premium” certification by the Royal Thai Government. They renovated the restaurant in 2023 if I remember correctly. Food has been consistently on point.

2. Sabai Thai Eatery
Sabai Thai is very popular in the Crescentwood area in Winnipeg. The service is warm and friendly, and the dishes are tasty. It quickly became one of my favourites after my first visit a couple of years ago.

3. Sassy Thai Restaurant
Sassy Thai has built a strong following since its launch in February 2024. Co-owners Nan (Sasithorn Thorsteinson) and Thon (Angkul Muensuk) are both Thailand natives who previously refined their culinary skills working at Siam Thai. Together with Kristjan Thorsteinson, they deliver a fantastic menu that highlights the vibrant, traditional flavours of northern Thai cuisine.
We definitely enjoyed our meal.

4. Sukhothai Restaurant
Sukhothai has been holding it down in Osborne Village for ages and has a super loyal following. The space inside is huge, but just a heads up: you have to go through the back entrance now. They have tons of options on the menu, so you’re covered whether you want a bowl of Tom Yum or a massive plate of noodles.

5. Bangkok Thai Restaurant
Bangkok Thai is one of the very first Thai spots in the city. It used to share that great space at 100 Osborne with Meiji Sushi and G Martini Bar. Honestly, the building feels pretty empty and almost abandoned now, which is a total shame. But the food is still great. You can’t go wrong with their spring rolls, Thai iced coffee, or the pad peanut sauce stir-fry.

6. Baan Thai Restaurant
I really like the decor and the atmosphere inside this place, and the staff is super friendly. The chicken pad Thai and red curry basa are both delicious. We also loved the spice level of their beef green curry, though honestly, that specific dish turned out a bit bland overall last time I visited.

7. Thida’s Thai Restaurant
Thida’s Thai has been running downtown for years. Their menu offers lots of regional specialties, so there’s a dish for everyone. Just a heads up: the portion sizes aren’t quite as big as they used to be, but that’s completely understandable these days.

8. Mae Sunee Thai Cuisine
Mae Sunee Thai Cuisine in Winnipeg’s West End serves Thai food rooted in family recipes, like its Pad Thai sauce. It’s run by the daughter of Thida’s Thai’s owner, and it has a cute patio. Their dishes are very flavourful, though on the pricier side in comparison to other Thai restaurants.
Temporary Update: This location is temporarily closed due to a fire. Keep an eye on local news for when they reopen their doors.

9. Magic Thai Restaurant
Magic Thai is a long-running, low-key spot on Logan Ave that serves up yummy Thai dishes. The prices here are very reasonable, making it a great budget-friendly option for the amount of food you get.

10. Vanxai’s Restaurant
Vanxai’s is a cozy, family-run spot in the St. Vital area that serves up comforting Thai and Laotian dishes. The service is super friendly, the portions are decent. Love their curry dishes. It’s just a great, unassuming spot to hit up when you want some good Southeast Asian food.

Bonus Adventure: Tom Yum Thai (Transcona)
I actually tried Tom Yum Thai after finishing my main top 10 video, but I had to include it here!
The restaurant has two locations — one on Regent Ave. and one on Sherbrook St. We visited the Regent location a few months ago and wow… it was way farther into Transcona than we expected 😂
The restaurant feels very family-owned and homey. Since we were the only ones there, the dishes came out incredibly fast.
Honestly, every dish was delicious. Lots of flavour, tender meats that weren’t overcooked, and the Pad Thai had such a great texture — not mushy at all.
At the end of the meal, they surprised us with a complimentary Thai snack/dessert called dok jok (dokchok). We’d never tried it before! It’s a light, crispy deep-fried wafer that’s slightly sweet and shaped like a beautiful flower 🌸
