ShopLook Review

ShopLook is another Polyvore alternative that’s been talked about quite a bit on social media in the last few days. I tried it, can’t say I am that impressed.

Before going ahead with the review, in case you haven’t heard, Ssense has finally apologized. Took them long enough. Many don’t believe what they said in the statement (see blow).

ShopLook

Like Urstyle, Shoplook has been trying to woo ex-polyvorians. If you go to their home page (again, same as urstyle, not really a homepage), there is a message for Polyvore users: “Polyvore users: we will soon be offering a way for you to upload your history. Signup to receive an update when this is ready”.

About Shoplook

Who is this company?

I have no idea, other than the founder’s name is Laya. No last name.

  • No company history or company profile (About Us)
  • No company address so we don’t know where it is located
  • No phone number
  • “Contact” section only has an email address

How secure is this website, what would they do with our creations and user information?

Again, I don’t know.

  • No “Term of Use”
  • No general “Privacy Policy”. Privacy policy is only mentioned in “Contest Terms” in “Rewards”
  • No email confirmation when you sign up
  • It doesn’t seem to have “Delete Account” option. I looked in “Settings” – “Edit Profile” and “Edit Personal Data”. This concerns me. If anyone has found this option, please let me know. Thanks!!Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 11.27.22 AM

So I would advise Polyvorians not to upload any of your creations until this company gives us more information.

Create a Set

To create a set, click on the clothes hanger on the top right corner of the screen. You can also go to your personal profile and click on the “Create Outfit” buttons.

Features currently available:

  • Add items to a set (today when I  click on an item, it automatically adds it twice. Facepalm!!!!)
  • Rotate items
  • Adjust item size
  • Move items forward and backward
  • Delete
  • Save draft – sometimes it doesn’t work. You will get a message saying “Oops… Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later.
  • Clear

A very short list.

Searching for items is the part that could be really frustrating for some.  For example, I want to add sneakers to the set, so I click on the square icon that says shoes on it.

It takes you to this screen.

If I want sneakers, I either type “sneakers” in “search” (method 1), or I delete “pumps”, “sandals”, “flats” and “boots” (method 2).  But two different ways to search would get you two different results.

This is what I get by using method 1

and method 2

To see more selections (even though ShopLook has added more items, the choices are still limited), you need to choose color, brand or seller.

To choose colour, you simply click on the “down arrow” beside “Color”. Let’s say you are interested in black sneakers, so you would click on the black circle. See screenshot below.

These are all the black sneakers available which is not a lot. To get rid of the colour bar, you have to click on the “down arrow”.

Here is the set I made for this blog post which I could not even save. *Sigh*.  This site has a few technical issues.

I want to believe that ShopLook has every intention to improve and help Polyvore users find another home.  Their social media announcements have been very sincere.  However, they have a long long long way to go!! They’ve said repeatedly that they are working on adding a number of features and resolving tech problems. Until then, I will not be making more sets on ShopLook.

Cheers,

Ames
