Summer is in full swing!!! Temperature in Winnipeg will climb to above 30°c this week. Perfect weather for the Canada Day long weekend, many would say.
I love wearing skirts in the summer, especially midis. Styling skirts is pretty straight forward in my opinion. But it could get a bit tricky, depending on the look you are going for.
I’ve asked one of my favourite fashion set creators on Urstyle, Shoaleh Niavarani, to join me in sharing styling ideas.
It’s unquestionable that midi skirts is a wardrobe staple in the summer. I actually wear midis into the autumn which is about a week in Winnipeg 🙂 , until it snows.
Striped midis are perfect for casual summer weekends. You simply can’t go wrong with them. In the set below, Shoaleh styled a striped midi with a cute graphic tee, a pair of flat sandals, a bucket straw bag and a straw hat. A very feminine and chic look.
I am a huge fan of neutral midis. Neutrals such as beige, ivory, cream, tan are classic and elegant. They pair well with a wide array of colours. Bright and bold hues such as red, pink, yellow, blue and green pop against these neutrals.
The midi skirt in the set below is linen. Many shy away from linen because it wrinkles very easily. Here are some tips on how to keep linen from wrinkling.
To keep the outfits fashionable and interesting, select tops with details such as ruffles and lace or fabulous neckwear like pussy-bow.
Let’s not forget black and white are also neutrals. They contrast with everything. Therefore, will forever sustain their popularity.
The midis in the following three sets are all fitted which is an excellent choice if A-line skirt is not your thing.
Pleated midi is my favourite midi. I have a few in my closet. I love styling them with tank tops but crop tops, t-shirts and sleeveless blouses are all terrific options in the summer.
Personally, I like to match my footwear either with the top or accessories. As far as bags are concerned, I tend to pick straw or wooden ones during the season.
Shoaleh says many ladies don’t feel comfortable wearing mini skirts due to their fear of looking too sexy and provocative. Believe her (she does know a thing or two about fashion), when styled right, minis can look amazing. The trick is to wear them with appropriate tops and footwear. The set she created below is a perfect example on how to look stylish, sexy and tasteful in a mini skirt.
If you are going on a date and prefer a more conservative look, opt for a simple black sleeveless top. It’s timeless and classy, and goes well with any skirts. I chose these Tory Burch ballerina flats but you can switch them to a pair of flat or heel sandals. Your date will be swoon by your incredible sense of style. 🙂
Denim mini is so versatile that you can style it with just about any piece. Throw it on with a cute top, a pair of sandals or sneakers and quality accessories, you are ready to hit the road like a true fashionista.
